Overview
Feature Labs, known for developing tools and APIs focused on data science and feature engineering automation, realized the importance of having an effective interface for their users. They aimed to harness open-source tools to cater to the growing interest in machine learning. The project at hand was to design a dashboard/web-application, primarily for handling entity sets and managing projects.
Starting the design process, the team first sought to deeply understand the user's journey. They engaged with potential users, mainly data scientists, to gain insights into their daily workflows and the challenges they face while working with entity sets and managing multiple projects. This initial research was instrumental in ensuring the resulting design would be user-centric. Given the technical nature of Feature Labs' offerings, it was essential to strike a balance.
The design had to be robust enough for advanced users, yet intuitive enough for those less familiar with the intricacies of data science. The heart of the design was the dashboard, conceptualized to provide users with a clear view of their entity sets and ongoing projects. The dashboard aimed to simplify tasks, allowing users to quickly access tools, manage their projects, and manipulate entity sets without a steep learning curve. The layout was kept clean, emphasizing clarity and ease of navigation, ensuring that users wouldn't get overwhelmed by the wealth of features at their disposal.
